“A Year in Asheville”
Vernacular Photography Blog Project Reaches Completion

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Sept. 29, 2008—Marty Weil, a freelance writer based in Asheville, announces the completion of “A Year in Asheville” photo blog project, a vernacular “time-capsule” that contains more than 300 images of everyday scenes shot in and around Asheville, North Carolina, between September 29, 2007 and September 29, 2008.

“A Year in Asheville” contains images that capture some of the most important events and activities that took place in Asheville during the Weil’s first year in residence, including festivals, protests, and civic events. The images featured on “A Year in Asheville” highlight the special people and moments that typify life in Asheville.“My first visit to Asheville was in 1990,” says Weil. “In 2007, my dream to live in Asheville came true. To chronicle it, I created ‘A Year in Asheville.’ The site was created to capture the special moments and scenes that are the essence of life in Asheville. This project is a modern, digital interpretation of the type of vernacular photography that was common at the beginning of the last century.”

While he will no longer add images to the site after September 29, 2008, Weil plans to keep “A Year in Asheville” active on the Web to serve as a permanent, online time-capsule of life in Asheville from 2007 to 2008.
